Please note: Previous experience in PowerFactory basics and some experience in handling of PowerFactory time domain simulation functions, or attendance at an introductory course, is essential. The Self E-Learning course Introductory Course: Load Flow and Short Circuit Calculation, for example, can be used to acquire the necessary basic knowledge and the Self E-Learning course Introductory Course: Time Domain Simulation, can be used to acquire the necessary basic knowledge on time domain simulations.

Full training program: PDF with Training Content

The increasing penetration of power electronic converters in modern power systems introduces faster dynamics and more complex interactions compared to systems dominated by synchronous generation. This course provides an introduction and hands-on experience with
the tools and techniques used for stability analysis of converter-dominated power systems.

The program covers:
• Introduction and basic concepts
• Relevant technologies and simulations models
• Frequency stability
• Subsynchronous stability
• Impedance-based stability assessment
Each topic combines theoretical foundations with practical exercises, enabling participants to apply the acquired knowledge directly in PowerFactory.

Important hint: This training will be held for PowerFactory 2026. Older versions may have a different structure in the menus or do not yet have some of the functions presented. The PowerFactory exercise projects provided in the training were created with PowerFactory 2026 and cannot be imported with older versions.

Licence and Material

A PowerFactory licence for the duration of the Online training course is included in this course and will be delivered a week before the first day of the training together with the training material that consists of presentations, exercises and example projects via mail. Additionally, a link is provided to download and install PowerFactory locally. An installed instance of PowerFactory in the version specified on the description page is required to participate in the training.

The training is held in Zoom.

Target Audience

The course is intended for utility engineers, power system operators, project developers, manufacturers, consultants and electrical engineers interested in stability analysis of modern power networks.
