General Questions for all types of Training
Do I need a separate webshop account to purchase a training course?
Yes, a webshop account must be created for this. At the moment, the accounts from the DIgSILENT website cannot be used in the webshop.
What training courses are available for PowerFactory?
We offer Self E-Learning courses that can be done without a trainer in our learning management system (LMS) as well as a series of Onsite/Online training courses with trainers throughout the year, either online or at our offices in Gomaringen.
However, other training courses are also available on request. These courses are so-called “user-specific” and can be held online, in our offices or at the customer’s premises.
The list of available courses can be found at the bottom of the Onsite/Online Training Courses page. A quotation for these user-specific courses can be requested by e-mail: training@digsilent.de.
Which PowerFactory version is used for the training courses?
The version that is used in the training courses is specified on the product page.
The version used for user-specific training courses can be arranged with the customer.
Can I do the training with a different PowerFactory version from the one specified in the programme?
The training material has been prepared for the version of PowerFactory specified on the product page. It is not possible to use a different version. This is because PowerFactory projects are not compatible with previous versions and the instructions may have changed. For Self E-Learning courses, you will get access to the PowerFactory AppStreaming so that you can access the appropriate version without additional installation.
The version of PowerFactory to be used in user-specific training courses can be arranged with the customer.
Do I need experience with PowerFactory to attend the training courses?
For the introductory course: Load Flow and Short Circuit Calculation, no previous knowledge is required. However, it is beneficial to prepare for the course by watching some of the videos available on our YouTube channel.
For the other courses, experience with PowerFactory is essential in order to be able to follow the training instructions in the time allotted. The experience required for each course is specified in the course description and programme.
Questions about Onsite/Online Trainings
Do I need a PowerFactory licence to attend the training?
A temporary PowerFactory softkey licence containing the modules required for the course is supplied with the training material. Please note that this type of licence cannot be used in a virtual machine.
On which webmeeting platform are the online courses delivered?
Online training courses are delivered in Zoom. For information on how to join a Zoom meeting, please visit the Zoom support website.

Do I need to prepare for the Python Training course?
The DIgSILENT “Scripting with Python in PowerFactory” focusses mainly on the communication between PowerFactory and Python. The training includes a short introduction to the Python language and syntax. However, knowing the basics in advance will enable the participant to focus more on the main tasks and the objectives of the exercises. Therefore, we recommend basic scripting experience (in Python), even though it not mandatory for the participation in this training.

Where can I access my purchased Self E-Learning courses?
You can access all purchased courses that are still available for you in our learning management system (LMS) with your access data here.
Are the webshop and learning management system (LMS) accounts identical?
The accounts for the webshop and the learning management system (LMS) are not identical. The login credentials for the LMS will be sent to you directly after the purchase of a Self E-Learning course if you do not already have an LMS account from a previous order. If you do already have an account, you can log in with that.
What is the PowerFactory AppStreaming?
The PowerFactory AppStreaming is a virtual instance of PowerFactory that can be accessed from our learning management system (LMS). This allows you to easily use PowerFactory online, without installation and set-up and in the version that matches the course.
When does the 30-day-access time for a Self E-Learning start?
The access time starts as soon as the order is placed. You will receive the login credentials for the learning management system (LMS) immediately after placing the order.
What is the meaning of the streaming region on the Self E-Learning product page?
The streaming region indicates the location of the data centre used for the PowerFactory AppStreaming. In order to minimise latency, the streaming region is determined automatically and cannot be changed.
